Hamilton-Norwood scale

Hair loss and balding often follow a specific pattern. The Hamilton-Norwood scale shows various stages. Hair loss usually starts at the temples and forehead, then spreads to the back of the head, and eventually over the entire scalp.

Growth cycle

The three-stage hair growth cycle

Your hair goes through a growth cycle in three phases.
Swipe to find out about the function of the individual phases.

Phase 1

Anagen phase (growth phase)

The hair follicles divide quickly and form new hair; within a month the hair grows about 1 cm; about 81 % of the hair is in this phase.

Phase 2

Catagen phase (transition phase)

The hair stops growing, the cell matrix stops producing cells so that the follicles in the lower area constrict; around 3 % of hairs are in this phase.

Phase 3

Telogen phase (resting phase)

After 2 - 6 months the hair falls out and the hair root can recover and subsequently form a new hair; approx. 18 % of hairs are in this phase.

Caffeine as hair loss prevention

80 % of men with classic hair loss have hereditary hair loss.

Any disturbances in the growth cycle can lead to reduced nutrient supply, active growth phase, and size of hair follicles, resulting in increased hair loss.

Male pattern baldness is often caused by hypersensitive hair roots that react to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT binds to the androgen receptor, leading to shortened growth phases and thinner hair.

Caffeine can counteract this by stimulating the hair root and boosting the energy metabolism.

DMG: Innovative active ingredient for optimal nutrient supply

Nutrient supply is crucial for healthy hair growth. Fine blood vessels transport oxygen and nutrients to the hair roots. In hereditary hair loss, this supply can be impaired by reduced microcirculation. DMG, a novel active ingredient, stimulates microcirculation and can thus optimise the supply. Hair weakened by nutrient deficiency can be supported in growth again. Additionally, DMG has anti-inflammatory properties and can counteract micro-inflammations associated with hair loss.

Other types of hair loss

Hair loss in focus

Stress, whether due to lack of sleep or personal problems, can lead to hair loss. Heavy physical exertion increases the body's energy requirements, which means that the hair roots are not sufficiently nourished. This can lead to thinning hair and hair loss.

Diffuse hair loss is widespread. In contrast to hereditary hair loss, the hair in diffuse hair loss becomes thinner overall and there is no typical progression. The hair loss is not limited to certain areas (back of the head or forehead) but spread out evenly across the scalp.

The reasons for diffuse hair loss can vary: physical or emotional stress, medication, or illness. In any case, the hair roots are not sufficiently supplied with nutrients and energy, as both are needed elsewhere in the body. The lack of energy then causes the hair to fall out and become thinner.

If hair loss stems from illness or certain medications, you should always consult a doctor.
