How it Works: DMG promotes the micro-blood-circulation of the scalp**, and hair loss is effectively reduced*.

Micro-blood-circulation is the foundation for healthy hair growth

In areas affected by hair loss, this can be reduced to below 40%.

This is where DMG comes in: its mode of action, comparable to Minoxidil, promotes micro-blood-circulation** and the hair roots are once again supplied with nutrients.

Additionally, caffeine stimulates the hair root

Caffeine has been known for over 20 years for its stimulating effect on hair roots. It inhibits the breakdown of the intracellular messenger cAMP. As a result, more energy is available to the cells and cell growth is stimulated.

Caffeine is thus one of the most researched active ingredient of plant origin in hair science.

Caffeine + DMG: Even more effective when combined

Individually, caffeine and DMG are already highly potent active ingredients. In Alpecin's unique, patented active complex, they are now even more powerful.

The result: Hereditary hair loss is now effectively reduced and hair growth** can be increased.

Micro-blood-circulation of the scalp

A circular heatmap of a head, predominantly in blue with a small central yellow and red area, shows intensity variations of micro-circulation against a dark blue background.

BEFORE application:

A circular heatmap of a head with vibrant red, yellow, and blue tones shows intensity variations of micro-circulation against a dark blue background.

AFTER application:

Measurement of micro-blood-circulation before and after using Alpecin Caffeine DMG Shampoo (Vertical head scan with a special laser camera for measuring blood flow).

Application: This is the only way to achieve the best result

  • Apply daily

  • SHAMPOO: Leave on for 2 minutes

  • SERUM: Massage in and do not rinse out

  • Use continuously to maintain results

  • Tip – No time to shampoo your hair?
Use the Serum on non-wash days.

The effects of the Caffeine DMG formula shown in our studies require daily application.

Measurement Method

Measurement method: First-time evaluation of more than 10,000 individual hairs

Focus on a screen showing a close-up of hair to highlight that Dr. Wolff, together with the Fraunhofer Institute, has developed a new method to analyse hereditary hair loss in men.

In collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute, Dr. Wolff Research has now taken a systematic approach to hair loss* and conducted a comprehensive analysis of the human scalp.

Whereas previous studies examined areas with only around 300 hairs, our new method, which evaluates more than 10,000 hairs per head, provides precise results:

"The new DMG complex is shown to reduce hair loss* and, in some cases, support new hair growth.*"

FAQ: Answers to your questions

You can easily combine the Caffeine DMG Shampoo and the Caffeine DMG Serum, but it's not absolutely necessary to use both products at the same time.

What's crucial is that your hair and scalp receive a daily dose of Caffeine DMG.

We recommend using the shampoo on days when you wash your hair and the serum on days when you don't.

Already after 3 month of regular use, hair gets visibly thicker and fuller.

As a scientifically oriented company, Dr. Wolff places the highest value on sound research and evidence-based statements. We are currently a pioneer in the field of topical application of N,N-dimethylglycine (DMG). To generate valid and objective data, we rely on a high-quality study design. Our investigations – for example into the Alpecin Caffeine-DMG products – were therefore conducted in a placebo-controlled, randomised, and double-blind manner. A brief explanation of these terms:

  • Placebo-controlled: One group receives the active ingredient formulation, another receives a placebo. This allows the actual effectiveness to be assessed objectively.
  • Randomised: Allocation to the groups is made at random in order to avoid systematic bias.
  • Double-blind: Neither the study participants nor the technical staff know who is receiving which treatment, ensuring unbiased results.

* 24-week RCT in men (n=154; daily use): standardised testing showed fewer hairs shed vs placebo at weeks 12 and 24; subgroup and consumer findings support higher density/growth-phase hairs and fuller-looking hair at 6 months. Hair loss not related to illness. Results vary.

** Clinical study with 1% DMG-Na Gel evaluating skin microcirculation at the forearm after 30-90 minutes vs control. Results vary.
